Development of Augmentative and Alternatives Communication Media for PDD NOS Children at the Cimahi Children's Intervention Home

This research is an attempt to get communication aids for children who experience
impairments in verbal communication through the development of augmentative and
alternative communication systems. The purpose of this study is to develop augmentative
and alternative communication systems in helping children with communication barriers.
In this study researchers used a qualitative approach method with descriptive methods.
The sample of this study was a child who had PDD NOS. The data analysis technique
used in this study is through a qualitative approach. The results of this study are: (1)
Children who are used as research samples have difficulty in responding to ongoing
communication both in verbal and non-verbal languages. (2) There are several family
potentials that can be developed to support children's communication skills. (3) The
augmentative communication system design and the alternative that the researcher
developed was a flannel card media that could be used in its communication. (4) Based
on the results of media validation with experts, teachers and parents, augmentative and
alternative communication media developed by researchers have been used well enough
to help children who experience communication barriers as a medium of communication
for them
